Michael Balfry is a highly accomplished cinematographer with over 30 years of experience in the motion picture and television industry. As President and Co-Founder of B&D Communications, he brings a wealth of expertise and creative vision to the company.

Balfry is a two-time Emmy nominee, ASC Nominee, and recipient of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers Award for Best Cinematography.
His most recent project is the hit Netflix live action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, released in February 2024.

Other credits include “Trial & Error”, “Resident Alien” , “The Dead Zone” , and “R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour” , for which he received a nomination from the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC).

Additional accolades include two Leo Awards for Best Cinematography in a Short Film and Best Cinematography in a Short Drama for his work on “Shadowplay” . He also received an ICVM Crown Award for the historical drama “Sight” .
Balfry is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International Cinematographers Guild, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) ICG 669, and the Canadian Society of Cinematographers.

Based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, Michael Balfiry is represented in the United States by Zero Gravity Management. His extensive experience, numerous awards, and consistent high-quality work have established him as a respected figure in the cinematography field.
